Are you Registered to vote in Westchester County? Dan D'Amico provides a step-by-step guide to registering before the midterm elections.

Quick answer: You can register to vote in Westchester County online through New York State's voter registration portal, by mailing a paper form to the Westchester County Board of Elections, or in person at the Board of Elections office or a participating state agency like the DMV. For the November 3, 2026 general election, your registration must be received by October 24, 2026.

Step-by-Step: How to Register

  1. Confirm you're eligible. You must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old by Election Day (16- and 17-year-olds can pre-register), a Westchester County resident for at least 30 days, and not currently incarcerated for a felony conviction.

  2. Choose a registration method:

    • Online: Use New York State's online voter registration portal, which requires a New York State DMV-issued ID or signature on file

    • By mail: Download a registration form from the Westchester County Board of Elections website, fill it out, and mail it in

    • In person: Visit the Westchester County Board of Elections at 445 Hamilton Avenue, 8th Floor, White Plains, NY, available any business day, or register while applying for services at a participating state agency (DMV, public assistance offices)

  3. Submit before the deadline. For the 2026 general election, mail and in-person registrations must be received by October 24, 2026.

  4. Confirm your registration. You can check your registration status anytime through the New York State Board of Elections voter lookup tool.

What Happens After You Register

Once registered, you'll receive a voter registration confirmation and, closer to Election Day, information about your assigned polling location. You'll also be able to vote early (October 24 – November 1, 2026) or request an absentee ballot if you qualify.

Already Registered but Moved?

If you've moved within Westchester County, you'll need to update your address with the Board of Elections. The deadline to submit an address change for the 2026 general election is October 19, 2026.
