National Police Week: Honoring Those Who Protect Our Communities

Every year during National Police Week, we pause to recognize the brave men and women in law enforcement who put their lives on the line to protect our families, neighborhoods, and communities.

As a former FDNY firefighter, I know firsthand what it means to answer the call when others are running away from danger. I have stood shoulder to shoulder with police officers during emergencies, tragedies, and moments when our communities needed strength and leadership the most. The bond between police, fire, EMS, and all emergency service professionals is something the public may never fully see, but it is built on sacrifice, trust, and service.

This week, we honor not only the officers of the Yonkers Police Department, but law enforcement officers across Westchester County and throughout the United States. These men and women work long hours, miss holidays with their families, and face increasing challenges every single day, all while continuing to serve with professionalism and courage.

Unfortunately, while our officers continue doing more with less, government spending priorities have become completely out of touch with the realities facing hardworking taxpayers and emergency services.

The recent county budget included an alarming 8% reduction in police funding while taxpayers continue to face rising costs, affordability struggles, and growing concerns about public safety. At the same time, millions continue to be directed toward projects and spending priorities that many residents feel are disconnected from the real needs of our communities.

Public safety should never be treated as an afterthought.

As your candidate for Westchester County Legislator, I will fight to prioritize funding and support for our emergency services, including police, fire, and EMS, while also ensuring our schools receive the resources they need to succeed. Strong communities are built on safe neighborhoods, quality education, and responsible budgeting that puts residents first.

Our police officers deserve leaders who back them publicly and support them through policy and funding decisions, not just during election season, but every day.

This National Police Week, let us remember the fallen, support those still serving, and recommit ourselves to building safer communities for future generations.

To every officer serving in Yonkers and across this nation: thank you for your sacrifice, your courage, and your commitment to protecting us all.
