Westchester County Budget Raises Taxes While Cutting Police, Fire, Schools, Roads, and Jobs

This week, I released a video addressing something every taxpayer in Westchester County should be paying attention to.

All but one county legislator voted for a budget that raises taxes while cutting essential services by 8 percent. That means cuts impacting police, fire, schools, roads, and roughly 180 jobs.

That is not fiscal responsibility. That is asking taxpayers to pay more while receiving less.

For families in Yonkers and across Westchester, this is exactly the kind of government decision that makes life harder. Residents are already dealing with rising costs, higher energy bills, unaffordable housing, and constant pressure on household budgets. The last thing working families need is a county government that takes more from them while cutting the very services they rely on.

Police, fire, schools, and roads are not just line items on a budget page.

They are the reason we pay taxes in the first place.

They are the services that keep our neighborhoods safe. They are the services that protect our families in emergencies. They are the services that educate our children, maintain our communities, and make sure basic government functions are actually delivered to the people who fund them.

When government raises taxes, residents should expect better service, better infrastructure, better public safety, and better results.

Instead, this budget asks Westchester taxpayers to pay more and accept less.

That is unacceptable.

As a former FDNY firefighter, I know firsthand that public safety is not something you cut casually. When emergencies happen, people do not call a budget office. They call police, fire, and first responders. When families send their children to school, they expect their government to prioritize education. When residents drive on our roads, they expect them to be maintained. These are not luxuries. These are core responsibilities.

I am running for Westchester County Legislator in District 16 because Yonkers deserves a representative who understands that taxpayers are not an endless source of money for government to spend without accountability.

I will not vote for a budget that takes more from my neighbors and gives them less in return.

We need a county government that puts residents first. We need leadership that protects essential services, respects taxpayers, and demands real accountability for how our money is spent.

On November 3rd, we have a chance to change direction.

A vote for Dan D’Amico is a vote for someone who will advocate for Yonkers families, protect essential services, fight for fiscal responsibility, and make sure county government works for the people who pay for it.

Westchester taxpayers deserve better.
