The Big Apple Gazette Features Dan D'Amico in "Meet the Candidate" Series

Dan D'Amico Westchester County Legislator District 16 Big Apple Gazette feature 2026

The campaign is gaining attention.

The Big Apple Gazette, a New York City publication covering politics, community, and local news, sat down with me as part of their "Meet the Candidates: Elections 2026" series. The full feature went live on June 2, 2026, and I want to share it with the District 16 community directly, because everything I said in that interview is exactly what I have been saying at your doors.

You can read the full article here: Meet the Candidate: Daniel D'Amico for Westchester County Legislator 16 - The Big Apple Gazette https://thebigapplegazette.com/meet-the-candidate-daniel-damico-for-westchester-county-legislator-16/

Here are the highlights.

On why I'm running:

I have watched candidates run unopposed in this county year after year. No competition means no accountability. I have been sitting on the sidelines long enough, and when I saw a clear need for real representation in District 16, I decided to step in. This is my first run for public office, and I am running because the people of this district deserve a choice.

On homeownership:

This is the centerpiece of my campaign, and it comes directly from my experience as a real estate broker. Homeownership is the most reliable path to building generational wealth, and right now our local government policies are working against it. I pointed to a specific example in the interview: Westchester County has spent approximately $45 million on electric vehicle charging infrastructure. I believe those dollars could have been redirected into down-payment assistance grants that could have helped roughly 1,800 families purchase their first homes. That is 1,800 families building equity and putting roots down in this community.

I also made clear that I oppose using taxpayer-backed county incentives for developments that produce only luxury rental units. If public money is going into a housing development, that development should create opportunities for people to own, not just rent.

On flooding and infrastructure:

Parts of District 16 have been hit hard by flooding and erosion, and residents have been waiting years for promised repairs. People are worried the next storm could take their homes. That is not acceptable. I support accelerating flood mitigation projects, shoreline stabilization, and the infrastructure improvements needed to protect families in vulnerable neighborhoods. You can see me address this issue directly at a flooded street in our district here: https://www.electdandamico.com/post/yonkers-flooding

On homelessness and mental health:

Downtown Yonkers continues to struggle with visible homelessness, addiction, and mental health challenges that have not gotten the county-level attention they deserve. I support increasing county resources for case management, mental health services, addiction treatment, and street outreach. These are real people who need real help, and a county legislator should be fighting to get them that help.

On keeping the campaign clean:

I said it in the interview, and I will say it again here. I don't know my opponent personally and I don't have anything negative to say about her as a person. This race is about competing visions for the future of Westchester County. I want voters focused on the issues, on the spending decisions being made with their tax dollars, and on who is best equipped to fight for the families of District 16.

On what one accomplishment would mean the most:

If I could accomplish one thing, it would be helping more people become homeowners. That changes lives, builds wealth, and creates opportunities that can be passed on to future generations.

That idea says everything about why I am in this race.

I want to thank Gonzalo Duran and The Big Apple Gazette for taking the time to sit down with me and share this campaign with a wider audience. Coverage like this helps voters learn about their choices, and an informed voter is exactly what this district needs.

If you have not already, read the full feature and share it with your neighbors. The more people in District 16 who know this race is happening, the better.

And if you are ready to get involved, here is how:
