Yonkers Flooding Shows Why Westchester County Needs Real Infrastructure Accountability
Flooding is not just an inconvenience. For too many families in Yonkers, it is a recurring crisis that damages property, disrupts daily life, lowers quality of life, and leaves residents wondering why the problem keeps happening year after year.
That is why I recently released a video addressing the flooding issues affecting our neighborhoods here in Yonkers. The message is simple: our residents should not have to keep paying the price for aging infrastructure and government inaction.
For years, neighbors across Yonkers have dealt with flooding in streets, basements, parking lots, and residential areas. These are not isolated problems. They are symptoms of aging infrastructure that has not kept up with the needs of our community. When stormwater systems fail, when drains are overwhelmed, and when long standing problems are ignored, hardworking residents are the ones left dealing with the damage.

Yonkers Residents Deserve Better
As a candidate for Westchester County Legislator in District 16, I believe county government must do a better job focusing on the issues that impact residents every single day. Flooding, public safety, road conditions, affordability, and infrastructure are not abstract policy topics. They are real quality of life issues.
When families are dealing with flooded property, damaged vehicles, unsafe roads, and constant uncertainty every time heavy rain is in the forecast, they deserve action. They deserve answers. They deserve a county legislator who will push for accountability and make sure Yonkers receives the attention and resources it needs.
Our neighbors should not have to beg government to do the basics.
Aging Infrastructure Is Hurting Yonkers Neighborhoods
Much of the flooding problem in Yonkers comes down to infrastructure. Our storm drains, sewer systems, roads, and water management systems need serious attention. In many neighborhoods, the systems in place are old, overwhelmed, or simply not built to handle the needs of today.
That is not the fault of the homeowners, tenants, co op residents, small business owners, or families who live here. They pay taxes. They follow the rules. They invest in their homes and neighborhoods.
County government has a responsibility to help maintain and improve the infrastructure that protects our communities.
When infrastructure fails, it becomes more than a drainage issue. It becomes an affordability issue. Flooding can raise repair costs, hurt property values, damage vehicles, increase insurance concerns, and make it harder for families to stay in the neighborhoods they love.
Westchester County Must Prioritize Real Problems
Too often, government finds money for projects that do not match the top concerns of residents. Meanwhile, basic needs like flooding, public safety, roads, and emergency services are left underfunded or ignored.
That needs to change.
As your County Legislator, I will advocate for a county budget that puts taxpayers first. That means reviewing spending, cutting waste, and making sure taxpayer dollars are directed toward the issues residents actually talk about at their doors, in their homes, and in their neighborhoods.
The people of Yonkers are not asking for political talking points. They are asking for working drains, safe streets, reliable infrastructure, and a government that listens.
My Commitment to District 16
I am running for Westchester County Legislator because I believe Yonkers needs a stronger voice in county government. District 16 deserves representation that is focused on results, not excuses.
My commitment is to fight for:
Improved stormwater and drainage infrastructure in Yonkers neighborhoods
Greater accountability for county funded projects
Smarter budgeting that puts essential services first
Real attention to flooding issues before the next major storm
Better communication between residents, local officials, and county government
Taxpayer focused leadership that prioritizes people over politics
Flooding is not a new issue, but it must become a higher priority. Every year that goes by without action means more damage, more frustration, and more residents feeling ignored.
Yonkers Can Do Better
Yonkers is a city of families, homeowners, renters, small businesses, first responders, seniors, and working people who care deeply about their community. We deserve a county government that treats our infrastructure with the seriousness it requires.
This election is about whether we continue accepting the same excuses or demand a new level of accountability.
I believe we can make Yonkers safer, stronger, more affordable, and better prepared for the future. But that starts with electing leaders who are willing to focus on the problems residents are actually facing.
On November 3rd, we have an opportunity to bring real accountability to Westchester County government.
I am Dan D’Amico, Republican and Conservative candidate for Westchester County Legislator in District 16, and I am running to fight for Yonkers families, protect taxpayers, and make sure our neighborhoods are no longer left behind.
